Command line installation of TurboPrint for Linux 2.x
=====================================================

For GUI installation using the X-Windows based setup tool please see the
file README and the HTML documentation: doc/html/index.html

After unpacking the turboprint archive you should have the
following files in your directory (and some others):

setup setup.sh uninstall.sh README INSTALLATION BUGREPORT CHANGES
  system.cfg test*.ps

And the following directories:

bin colors deb doc dump img lib locale printers profiles rpm

setup.sh is a shell script that installs TurboPrint on your computer
--------
Important:

* To start the setup script, enter "./setup.sh" in a root terminal window

* You must be logged in as "root" and the current directory
must be the directory of the setup script.

* If there is no root user (UBUNTU) use "sudo ./setup" - your user password
  will be requested.

* Also use "setup" to UPDATE a previous version of TurboPrint.
You don't have to run "uninstall".

* gtk-2.0 is required for GUI installation and GUI tools turboprint /
  turboprint-monitor

* If you switch to the CUPS printing system, you must run "setup" again.

setup will list the installation settings from system.cfg and
ask you whether to proceed. Please type "y" to continue with
installation.

The next step will be to run "tpsetup" to setup your printer(s)
(or the GUI TurboPrint Control Center "turboprint").

Please see the HTML online manual (doc/html/index.html)
or the tpsetup manpage for details.

uninstall.sh is a shell script that removes TurboPrint from your computer
------------
Note for this release: The spool directories (usually in
/var/spool/lpd), the modifications in /etc/printcap and the
logfiles in /var/log/turboprint will not be removed.

system.cfg is a text file that describes your system configuration
----------
It tells the setup script (and later the TurboPrint software)
where to install the files and which permissions to use
for the spool directories - please see the description later in
this document.

testpage-a4.ps testpage-letter.ps testmargins-a4.ps testmargins-letter.ps
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
These are postscript test documents. Testpage contains test & color
graphics to test if the printer & driver are working properly.
Testmargins is for testing the unprintable page margins on A4 or
Letter sized paper.

Usage e.g.: lpr -P<printername> testpage-a4.ps

--- ---

Required packages
=================

CUPS (or LPR or LPRng) printer spooler must be installed.

Ghostscript (version 4.03 or higher) must be installed to print
Postscript, PDF and most other file formats.
